ノルウェーの人々にとって、クリスマスは一年で1番大きなイベントです。そんな一大イベントをどう準備し過ごすのか、気になりますよね。11月に入ると、街はクリスマスの雰囲気を出し始め、至る所からJul(ユール:ノルウェー語でクリスマスの意味)の言葉が聞こえます。お店は11月からクリスマスのデコレーションを見かけます。スーパーマーケットでは、クリスマス用のお肉•ソーセージ、牛乳、小麦粉、チョコレート、飴、クッキーなど全てクリスマスのパッケージに変わっていくそうです。楽しそうですね。そして、クリスマスプレゼントを計画します。嬉しいことに出費のかさむ12月は給料の所得税などの税金が減税されるので、いつもより多く手取り金が入りプレゼントを買う助けになるそうです。12月1日から、家ではアドベントカレンダーの登場。ノルウェーでは、julekalender(ユールカレンダー)と言います。子供たちは毎日チョコレートや飴をもらいます。
Christmas is the biggest event of the year for Norwegians. I’m wondering how local people spend such a big event. ノルウェーの人々にとってクリスマスはどのようなものなのでしょうか。家族・親戚が集まってみんなで過ごす日本で言うお正月みたいな感覚です。クリスマスまでの期間も当日もみんなが楽しく過ごすようです。会社勤めの人はまた嬉しい事があります。Julebord(ユールボード)と言って、日本で言う忘年会の様なものが12月に行われます。ドレスアップして、レストランで食事をします。しかも、会社が全額払ってくれるのです。クリスマスボーナスをくれる会社もあります。
What does Christmas look like to the Norwegian people? Family and relatives get together and spend time together. It’s like New Year’s in Japan. Everyone will have a good time until Christmas and on the day. People who work for a company may be happy again. Julebord , a kind of year-end party in Japan, is held in December. Dress up and dine at the restaurant. What’s more, the company pays the full amount. Some companies give you Christmas bonuses.
